culture is a way of life. it is the manifestation of of our music, artform, language ,festivals etc. the central theme of indian culture is tolerance and synthesis, absorption of new ideas and abhorring narrowness.there might have been abberations here and there but this has basically remained the hallmark of our lifestyle from the very beginning.
In the last decade or so a wave of westernization has swept our country. We have come to terms with a phenomenon called as consumerism. "Get it" is the new mantra. Selfish moral values are ruling the roost.
The upanishads have always propagated the concept of plain living and high thinking contrary to the typical consumerist world view of" Eat drink and be merry"....
But as long as our basic tenants of ..tolerance and synthesis are not crushed we dond mind if an ethnic indial classical band plays on fusion rather that pure Bhairvi...But the question is that is it ensured?

i support his thinking as i my is a strong believer in the mantra "simple living and high thinking" .
consumerism makes man more greedy n materialistic. Ppl seek happiness from the external world n gets more n more detached 4rm his self being. in indian culture a strong emphasis is always being given to the inner self , the soul within. happiness is Bliss. Phrase supporting consumerism is " money can buy happiness" which contradicts the indian culture
