We surely agree with all others points stated, but as a women its not the only responsibility of govt but we the women are most responsible for showing what we are, as the time changes, people also changes and so the mind of them.
What I want to say is that we should take the initiative and start working. If we see the other side, some person gives women the great pleasure but only due to few person we cant blame the whole country. Our country knows the difference between women and men but does the other country people knows it much clearly.
As God made two type of persons, both are given different post, we should maintain that and don’t try to change basic. Does giving equal opportunity means that we women are given priority? , No.
Our country can give numerous name of women like as said Soniya Gandhi, Jaya Lalitha, P.T usha, Lata Mangeshwar, and so on...
In each and every field we have placed our status and now it up to women’s to maintain...

Position of women in INDIA keeps changing according to social status and her attitude.iam very proud to be women in INDIA where she is treated with huge respect
PRACTICALLY SAYING there are few situations where she is treated as animal in some situations (when found her alone) and praised as ANGEL (in group) ...but what she expects is to treat as human not at top or not below...
Lets not confine it to saying but start treating them equal...
I agree to Preethi point of view. As she said women is also a human being so treating as a human is needs to be implement in villages. But also comparing friends point of view.nw women become more leading positions equally to men in all the field while in the olden ages women is only become house wife not able to study well and not able to know more information’s in the world but now women getting more priority...also in the sriya point the murderer call center women is really a sad for this really the government need to some sever actions...I Saluting to the Women those all good Indian Women’s...

Up to my knowledge. The position of women in India is good. There is no any social fighters given this position, except economical barriers faces by women in there daily life .so the olden days are gone, now women’s equally challenges the men. No more days’ topics like this going to be discussed. The key to this position is literacy and awareness of women is good to face the challenges in the world compared to olden days.

Women’s now a day govt has given best chance to do any thing, any work she can do as men so, now a days our women not in position to look backward always she is going forward and in govt sector given preference to get chance in better jobs also.
So we can say that our women are not less then all other women’s country.

well friends here i would like to add the root cause which i think is women education. we need to make them self dependent and in my openion the only tool to improve the womens condition is her education. they should be able to fight herself they should be bold . than noone cant say her Bechare Abla Nari.

Yea i agree...and i think since 60 yrs of independence much has been done for the betterment of women.But we need to have strict rules in rape cases.Severe punisments should be meted out..so that one thinks before taking this bold move.Looking up on the present scenerio its very meek and the real thing is nodoby in politics is conserved to take this matter seriously.

Women in india is seen from differen pt of views as a mother , wife , sister as a friend. Level of women now days are increasing nd its becoming possible only becoz awareness amony ppl are increasing. The respect which a women get in indian society is far far better as compared to other nations.

the whole article was excellent.....and it it true that a coin has two sides it has both negative and positive aspects.The position of women in india when compared to other nations better bcoz in india women know their limits and they do not cross it but in other countries this does not happens......but in the same way in india the of security of women is very weak.

The debate was really good.. ppl discussed very good points and I completely agreed tht status of women has rapidly changed. Nowadays womens are independent and even in some fields they lead. Many Indians women has shown us tht they can b very good managers(Indra nooyi) and leaders(Sonia Gandhi). BUt basically to change mindset of ppl of India, Women themselves have to struggle. They have to show men that they can be Independent & dont need their support to suceed.

for me women's position in india is very good beacuse to both man and women has the equal right.women are not stopped to anything that a man couldn't. in this independent country women are independent to any thing.whereas we can see many muslim countries law where girls can study upto class ten. where they have many restrictions and also where are not allowed to move with any other person rather then her parents or bother's. if this things are to be in our law then i can say our country's position for women is not in resppectible as compared to other nations.

Why was dowry started in the first place? Have any of you thought about that............ Not so long ago it was the belief that women are only ment to take care of their family and home, they didnt have jobs and thus didnt earn money. In order that they have some independent spending money, just incase any misfortune befell their husband they were given items like cash, gold, property etc. so as to help them (the women). This is the actual dowry custom which was meant for protecting the women who were completely dependent on their husbands to earn the money required to feed their families. Now-a-days this generous and noble thought of our ancestors is not valued, it is now only a mean of extracting money out of the women's parents. Infact these days even the women have jobs and thus the ability to earn and finance the family. Thus now dowry in its actual sense has no meaning as women now can fend for themselves. So I think this custom in modern times should be abolished.There many other such customs that need to be changed or abolished. And just as sriya said there should be better and deffinite laws, there should be strict and quick punishment for crimes.....etc.......But on a whole I think India is in the middle regarding position of women compared to other nations. In many of the middle-east nations women are litterally treated like cattle while in the west they are almost complete equals to men. In India in metropolitan cities
women have almost equal status as men though there might be some/few restrictions still there, but they are much better off than women found in the villages and the women (in villages of India) are better off than women in the middle east. So we are at the moment in the middle between 2 extremes.

i totally assert with you all... people today have forgot the meaning of why dowry is given??? they just treat women as a bank which will fetch them money without doing any work.... n when that money is received by them then they don't even care about her.... is this our India???? no.... also she is still treated just to give birth to a baby for their family.. n if this is not fulfilled she always has to listen to the bad statements of her family.. that vulgur language....
we womens are not your property.. n India still lacks in this issue...
one more thing, if we say womens position is better in India then we should also see that womens position in other countries are also good....no better than in India s.. you can take the example of foreign countries n not these many Asian countries also.. thanks....

friends, government of india is just thinking about the reservaton of women in every field. And it is good too, but they should also think to pass some serious laws against rape, eve teasing and dowry sytem.
i also want to raise one more point that women should also take the responsibility of handling these laws in a good way.
now a days, girls even from high profile families, they are making sexual contacts with boys and abort their child illegally. by doing these things they are just ruining their life.
i appeal to all the young girls that stop doing all these nonsense if they want a good response from government...

the conditions of women cannot be studied collectively under one category as the position of women are different in different sections of society and different parts of the country...in earlier times i.e. 20 years back condition of women was miserable but now the scenario has changed to a great extent now women are looked upon with respect as everyone knows india's first citizen is a lady yet the position cannot be said to be satisfactory as today also we come across cases of women being killed calling her a demon or a witch .... just one line spread education and women will not be minority

hi,In my point of view if we see any cinema,they give more hit films.but in all film the role of women(ie,heroine) is too bad except some films.they r giving full dress for heros and half dress for heroines.this shows the women's position that womens r only for glamour.so this should avoided.
in the case of dowry system we can say that dowry giving &getting is reduced . not only in villages but also in towns without dowry nobody come to marry.this also should avoided.

the position of women in India is very poor.women are treated as house wife n nothing else. the family members have to change their thinking regarding women. They think that the women are made for only house keeping works . But they can't take kalpana chawla as example. On the other hand the Indian women are not safe on road also. We have heard about lot of rape cases and also laws regarding the rape cases is also very poor. A rapist will hardly sent to jail 4 some months or years. But the Govt. will never think that after the punishment is over the girl will be in her origonal life as she was before . So in my point of view the punishment should be changed and the punishment should be the "THE MAN SHOULD BE HANG TILL DEATH" only then there is fear among the people before doning such crime.

The position of women in india is poor , but it does not mean that it can not be changed . It is the time when we can appritiate the women to come forward if anybody teases any women . The point is ,most of the girls think that they should keep quite , they try to change the way or not to be a part of the disscussion . and it boosts the crime , the loofers first tease the girl , try to misbehave with them , and when they feel the girl is worried they rape the girl , and because of our law they don't get even right punishment.
So try to come forward , do not shy and set an example of the others . complain in the police station . and get a result ......
The other resion is the adoption of the western culture : INDIA is the contry in which women has it's own importance , it used to worship, but adoption of western culture has lost the importance of women . Govt has improved women's position in india as very good beacuse to both man and women has the equal right.women are not stopped to anything that a man couldn't.So try to be an indian and proud to be an INDIAN.

Men and Women are like Electrons and Protons.Without one,other cannot exist.Duties of both men and women are different but not rights.They both share equal rights.If you analyse the history,no Developed nation has produced a women as president unlike India.Women can be a team member but never be head.It will be very harsh to comment but its a fact.The best place which women holds no other designation in the world have value is "A MOTHER"

Imran, I totally disagree with you saying that women can only be team members but not the head.
Now, I'm being a little bit harsh. But still tell me...
If one of the spouse is not present in the family.
In which of the case you find that a single spouse is raising up his/her child (most of the times). Single man or single woman???
My answer is single woman. She is committed.
But a man will re-engage himself with some other woman because he can't care his child.
Woman can do household work as well as jobs.
But man can't do household work even if he is not doing job.
THIS IS NOT TRUE ALWAYS BUT MOST OF THE TIMES.
This is most of the times. Keep this in mind.

One point i would like to add to the above discussion that in india we see that the number of women died during child birth is far more than other countires. This is not because we (india) have a lot of pupolation, but we have alopt of unemployed population. If there is more people there should be more docotrs and more hospital but this is not the case with india. the government should take aome steps to avoid this thing.

No doubt. Position of women has grown to a high level. But still at some places, they are treated as a slave; just bound to serve her husband. As compared to previous decades, the position has rose very fast.
Women are an immense source of energy (more than men). They are just needed to be furnished and must not be bound to work what others want from them. They must be made self-dependent.
As Imran said, men and women are like electrons and protons. That's why marriages are held and couples are formed to support each other in the rest of the life.
Similarly, a mixture of men and women should be there in different working sectors like IT. This is being done with a tremendous rate as in no other country.

i have gone through all the views & counterviews reguading this issue and found that being such a great nation, our thinking towards female population needs to be changed, as compared to other countries we still treat our womens as kithen bee. Though we worship goddess durga , sarswati, but still we dont want a girl child, and the person who is responsible for this, is non other than a women herself, every day lot of newly married womens are burnt in the curse of dowry by their own family members . This thinking must be changed so as to empower women in our society, & this would be done only at our home, not any government policy or rule, regulation will curb this.

Hi, friends I too agree with the point.Yes, God has made the two i.e. men and women by keeping different perspective in mind but he never wanted men to dominate women which is done in many places of India.In India definitely the position of women is improved as compared to past history but what about security.We come to read in every 10 to 15 days about incidents happening near Delhi.There is also a village where girl child is either killed after birth or in the womb itself .So we have to think about this also. Definitely,a women herself has to think about their importance and has to do something to improve their position in India.
